“The music of Harold Boatrite presented here represents his productive ‘Chamber Music’ period of 1955-65.  This music stands as not only noble, strong, and deeply expressive, but as an exemplary solution of one of the great compositional problems of the twentieth century: the reconciliation of tonality with chromaticism (the free use of all twelve tones).  Boatrite's solution represents a logical, evolutionary step in Western music, using traditional forms in fresh and inventive ways and juxtaposing and combining diatonic with chromatic passages in a way that always keeps the music moving purposefully.  No mannerism or self consciousness here!  Just formal integrity, contrapuntal skill, crunchy harmonic sophistication, and well-placed climaxes and resolutions.  Each piece of proposes a different formal problem and solves it brilliantly and communicatively.

A treat is in store for the listener.”
