The Mendelssohn Club performed a stunning concert this past weekend on Penn’s campus in University City, with a presentation of the classic Carl Dreyer silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc. Of course, it wouldn’t be much of a concert with a silent film... Mendelssohn Club performed the choral/orchestral piece “Voices of Light” by composer Richard Einhorn specifically composed for this film based on different facets of Joan’s life and the circumstances surrounding the events depicted in the film. This concert also features soloists: Laura Heimes, soprano Lorie Gratis, mezzo-soprano Matthew Loyal Smith, tenor Branch Fields, bass-baritone Voice of Joan Shari Alise Wilson, soprano Veronica Chapman-Smith, soprano |

The Academy of Vocal Arts is in the middle of an exciting series of performances of La Boheme by Puccini, featuring the immensely talented resident artists at AVA, and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, under the expert direction of Maestro Christopher Macatsoris. Weston Sound is proud to be the production company recording these concerts for air on WRTI this coming weekend, and to be producing a DVD edited from a multi-camera video shoot in Haverford’s Centennial Hall next week. |
